Introduction
The development of medicine, especially prevention and treatment of many diseases, allows people around the world to live increasingly longer. Aging is a natural process, yet one that presents us with completely new health challenges in the currently observed social scale.
Today, more and more representatives of the medical world are asking themselves not only how to extend life expectancy, but also how to ensure the longest possible life in good health. One of these aspects is addressed by the new medical field of telemedicine, specifically its derivatives of telemonitoring and telecare. The development of these fields provides a great opportunity for early detection of individual abnormalities in the vital parameters of users. Importantly, they also provide an unprecedented opportunity for families of the elderly and often sick people to provide the best possible care for them, without interfering with their independence.
Many Seniors give up or limit going out of the house, taking longer walks, and socializing for fear of not getting timely help in an emergency situation. The sense of security that comes with owning e-care devices also provides seniors with a chance to stay socially active. Researchers at Harvard University are conducting a study to find out the secret to longevity. After nearly 80 years of observing nearly 800 people, there is only one conclusion: relationships and connections with other people.
The answer to these social needs
is provided by our state-of-the-art
e-care system: Novama by HRP.
Novama by HRP is not only about taking care of users’ physical health, but also about their well-being and ability to connect with other people.
Telecare
and telemonitoring
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 has significantly accelerated the development of technology with telemedicine services. The need for technology-enabled caregiving services was already well underway, and was driven by changes in the demographics of our society.
According to statistics, people over
the age of 65 will constitute as
much as of the population by 2050
This age group is becoming increasingly significant among the residents of each community, and as a result, more care and monitoring services are needed, as it will not be possible to provide adequate care to everyone in need with the current staffing shortages.
As research indicates, older adults are particularly vulnerable to the negative consequences of social isolation, which has been increasing over the last years, e.g. due to pandemic or digital exclusion of Seniors. Implementation of e-care services is a common trend in Western European countries, which are already facing the growing phenomenon of population aging, as exemplified by Germany and Scandinavian countries.
What is Novama by HRP
Novama by HRP is a system that provides telecare and telemonitoring of the user’s basic vital signs in real time. Individual parameters are sent via the GSM network to a server, where an application is installed to directly monitor and analyse these parameters. Thanks to constant supervision, the Telecare Center is able to quickly detect any irregularities and take action to contact the user and verify his/her condition, and call the appropriate services if necessary.
In addition, the user in an emergency situation can call for help
by pressing the emergency button and dialling 112.
Regardless of the reaction of the services, a notification of pressing the emergency button is sent to the Call centre and to the designated Carer (an individual or e.g. a carer from the Social Telecare Center) who can also try to help the user. With an IP67 waterproof rating, the product can be used in a variety of weather conditions.
Novama by HRP means:
• Monitoring of user’s vital signs by the Telecare Center
• Calling for help in an emergency
• Possibility of constant supervision of the user by family members
Elements of the system
Teleband
The teleband, a measurement and contact device, is the primary tool of the Novama by HRP system. It works on the basis of a SIM card in the GSM 2G standard, thus providing care in the farthest corners of Poland. Care begins the moment the user puts on the teleband. In addition to advanced measurement sensors, the Novama by HRP teleband provides:
• Watch functionality with clear display
• A subtle, elegant case shape that prevents the band from snagging on clothing while still matching any outfit
• Convenient emergency button, friendly for the blind and visually impaired
• Durable hypoallergenic silicone band
• Magnetic charging cable, making it easy to plug in for charging, even in case of people with limited mobility
Technical specifications of the teleband *
* The exact specification of the device depends on the selected version of the band.

24/7 Telecare Center
The Telecare Center is a 24/7/365 user monitoring and surveillance site. Measurements are taken in real time and are continuously transmitted from the teleband to the Telecare Center. Based on the readings, the Telecare Center staff can intervene whenever there are disturbing readings from the band. If the user cannot be contacted, they will contact the designated Caregiver or call for assistance when needed.
The Telecare Center will also
intervene whenever a call for
help is made from the teleband
and 112 is called.
Unfortunately, sometimes, due to various reasons, the emergency number dispatcher refuses to send the ambulance or the user does not manage to inform about the event in time, and this is when the Telecare Center employees will facilitate getting proper help. The Telecare Center also maintains a technical service to assist users with issues related to the teleband use.
